While we only caught a glimpse of Finn Wittrock’s character before he was brutally murdered in the opening minutes of episode 4, here he is brought back to life as the heroic but deeply repressed Jeff Trail. Finn flawlessly captures Jeff’s internal struggle between his sexuality and sense of duty in the military, and the show does not shy away from the graphic details when he is unable to reconcile the two. The few moments that we do see Jeff happy–his first meeting with Andrew, his excitement at becoming an uncle–are shaded with tragedy. This heartbreaking and sensitive portrayal has earned Finn 51.2% of your votes to win the crown for MVP of the week.

Honorable Mention:

Darren Criss earns an honorable mention, trailing Finn by only one(!) vote. Andrew Cunanan begins the episode as charming, socially awkward, and desperate for love, but by the end the look in his eyes have transformed into that of a stone cold killer. Darren’s confident performance proves rewarding to watch, and as the season progresses leaves the viewer anxious to unravel more layers of this enigma.

Darren Criss has a lot to juggle in the premiere episode of the season, from con man to charmer to killer, which is why he wins the week’s MVP award with 85.7% of your votes. He delivers the standout performance in a show saturated with star power, signaling only the beginning of what we can expect from the rest of the season.

Once again Darren Criss is the episode’s MVP with 75.0% of your votes, though this time time for a performance that’s meme-worthy for its bad singing and a truly creepy duct tape fetish. An oiled up Darren Criss dancing in a bulging pink speedo is also the perfect thumbnail clickbait, as the James Corden segment on the series is nearing half a million views. Well-played, Ryan Murphy.

Judith Light claims this episode’s crown for MVP with 54.8% of the vote. Despite appearing in only one episode, her heartbreaking portrayal of Marilyn Miglin has left a powerful impression on viewers and earned her widespread praise. In a story populated by gay characters, she gives new perspective on how the closet can not only affect the closeted, but also those around them.

Darren Criss continues to prove that he has the acting chops to carry this dark tale, earning 54.7% of your votes. The direction and his performance leave viewers feeling claustrophobic as Andrew both physically and psychologically traps David by his side. We are allowed tiny glimpses of humanity however, such as in a memorable scene where Andrew breaks down during an acoustic performance of “Drive” by Aimee Mann.

Honorable mention:

This two-hander would not have worked without the impressive talent of Cody Fern, who won 45.3% of your votes for his portrayal of David Madson. Cody brings a youthfulness and vulnerability to his performance, which makes it all the more devastating when David is finally killed. For that, Cody receives an honorable mention.
