House of Cards’ final season is shaping up to be “phenomenal,” according to new star Cody Fern.
“[There’s] an exciting energy,” Fern tells ET. “Listen, everyone is just so thrilled to be supporting Robin [Wright], and I think that she is a powerhouse, and it’s been about Robin since season two, and anyone who’s in denial of that hasn’t been watching the show. So, we’re just thrilled to get behind Robin and she is a powerhouse. I mean, what she is doing with Claire Underwood is phenomenal. And, it’s only going to get more interesting.”
Season six of the Netflix hit fully shifts focus to Wright’s President Claire Underwood after Kevin Spacey, who played Claire’s husband, Frank, was fired from the series following allegations of sexual misconduct. Spacey has denied any wrongdoing.
As for Fern, his character is still a secret. What he will confirm is, his character’s not a good guy.
“No one’s a good guy on this show!” he notes. “No one. Uh… that’s what I can tell you.”
“I can’t tease you with anything, only because it’s so under wraps!” Fern adds. “It’s even under wraps for the cast. We find out right before we’re shooting what’s happening. So, everything is a surprise and it’s, every moment in House of Cards is anew. I will tell you, I work with everybody in the show, so my character gets to do a lot of backflips.”
Fern’s House of Cards casting comes after he’s received rave reviews for his portrayal of David Madson, one of spree killer Andrew Cunanan’s victims, on FX’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. ET caught up with the 29-year-old actor at a For Your Consideration event in Los Angeles on Monday night.
“I think playing David has been a particular treat,” he gushed. “Obviously, it’s incredibly tragic, but the material for an actor was just… second to none … it’s been a real journey for me and… I’m just so grateful to be a part of it, you know?”

Darren Criss Has a Message for Fans Who Think His Butt Deserves an Emmy (Exclusive)
Darren Criss’ portrayal of serial killer Andrew Cunanan on FX’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story definitely isn’t going unnoticed.
While the show has garnered plenty of attention since its January premiere, Criss’ glorious, bare backside has been the recent topic of discussion, thanks in part to fans on Twitter and a recent article from TV Guide, titled, “Darren Criss’ Magnificent A** in The Assassination of Versace Deserves Its Own Emmy.“ So when we caught up with the 31-year-old actor at the Versace FYC Event held at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, we obviously had to get his reaction!
“Well, that’s maybe the one thing we should campaign for,” he joked to ET’s Brice Sander. “Having [butts be] its own category.”
Although he’s totally game for awards shows to add a ‘Best Butt’ category to their nominations lists, Criss thinks he would lose to other notoriously more ripped TV actors.
“I don’t know. I’ve watched Game of Thrones,” he said. “I feel like I’ve got some stiff competition. Lots of rock hard competition.”
All jokes aside, however, he said a nomination for his portrayal of Cunanan in the series would “be nice.”
“I think those things are less about the performance and more about the moment that is created around it,” he explained. “If that was to happen, it would be very heartening for the work as a whole, I think for all the time and effort put in by everybody.”
“We put a lot of love and care into this,” he continued. “So, if that resonated with certain arbiters of taste and accolades, then that would be very encouraging and validating for our hard work.”
When Criss isn’t busy with his acting work, he likes to have a little fun, which we witnessed over the weekend when he was joined onstage by *NSYNC’s JC Chasez during his St Patrick’s Day ‘90s party at The Roxy in West Hollywood, California. The two performed plenty of classic boy band hits, like “Tearin’ Up My Heart” and “I Want You Back.”
“I threw a fun little St. Paddy’s Day party and I got some friends together and we played some music, and we had a lot of really fun guests,” Criss told ET of how it all came together. “We’ve thrown a couple of them, they’re always very DL, no social media. But when I found out who was going to be singing with us, I was like, ‘YEP! Get your phones out, this is the coolest thing ever!’”
“JC was so kind to us, but there was a bit of a backstory,” Criss added. “It’s around the 20-year anniversary of that first album that *NSYNC put out, so there was kind of a ‘90s theme to our party. We were celebrating a great ‘90s record, a great ‘90s artist and JC’s amazing voice.”
Criss continued on, telling us he still can’t believe that Chasez said yes to the idea.
“I was trying to be nice and have him sing something else,” he recalled, “because I didn’t want to put him in a corner and he was like, ‘No, I’d rather do something I know the words to,’ and I was like, ‘Fine! I’d be very happy and you’d make a lot of people at this party very happy.’ So, that was very cool.”
The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story finale airs Wednesday on FX. In the meantime, watch the video below to see highlights from Criss’ collaboration with Chasez!

The brother Santo calls The Assassination of Gianni Versace “illustrated crap”

No doubt about it: the second season of American Crime Story is not really liked by the Versace family, which is the protagonist. The Assassination of Gianni Versace, aired by us on Fox Crime (the latest episode will air next Friday) has caused a sensation as he told the murder of the famous designer Gianni Versace at the hands of the serial killer Andrew Cunanan.
In fact, rather than focusing on the designer, the series preferred to follow the man hunt that was born after the shot that kills Versace on 15 July 21 years ago. All this, inspired by Maureen Orth’s book “Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History.” The book has never been authorized by the Versace family: it follows that even the Ryan Murphy TV series has met with the same distrust.
American Crime Story 2, the words of Santo Versace
Shortly before the show’s debut, in January, Donatella Versace had underlined her own extraneousness to the project, and today at Rai Radio1’s Un Giorno da Pecora her brother Santo came down on it heavier, distancing himself from what is told in the show:
“Do I like the TV series The Assassination of Gianni Versace? It’s illustrated crap that does not even concern Gianni Versace, it’s full of lies, stupidity, it’s a series made on Mr. Cunanan, not on Gianni Versace".
Santo Versace admits to follow the TV series, but “to understand how much filth and falsity they say, it’s just something obscene.” For the president of the Versace group the show uses the tragedy to tell another story:
“The series is on Andrew Cunnanan, not on Gianni, they have exploited Gianni Versace because he is an audience.”
American Crime Story 2, the statements of the Versace family
“I speak only for myself,” he then told the conductors Geppi Cucciari and Giorgio Lauro, "but I think everyone who has known Gianni thinks the same way.” His is the more explicit stance of the Versace family, which a couple of months ago had issued a statement that was still very clear about its position towards the production of Fx.
“The Versace family has never authorized or been involved in the TV series on the death of Mr. Versace,” the statement reads. “Since Versace did not authorize the book from which the show was taken nor took part in writing the screenplay, this series must only be considered a fictional work.”
The Assassination of Gianni Versace, however, got the job done, attracting the attention of the press and the public, even if the latter was lower than the first season of the show, which told the trial of O.J. Simpson and that was seen by over 3 million viewers, against almost two million in the second season.
The next seasons of American Crime Story
Despite this, FX can be said to be fully satisfied with the series, so that two other seasons are already in the pipeline: the third will tell the events following the Urano Katrina in Lousiana (a series of changes in the race has forced the production to review the entire project ), while the fourth will be focused on the scandal of the then President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky.
