2018 Emmy Nominations (with our scattered opinions) | Tom + Lorenzo

LIMITED SERIES
The Alienist
The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story
Genius: Picasso
Godless
Patrick Melrose

We’re inclined to split the vote between Melrose and Versace, even though we had issues with both. If you threatened to set our closets on fire, we suppose we’d have to pick the Versace one.

LEAD ACTOR, LIMITED SERIES OR MOVIE

Antonio Banderas, Genius: Picasso
Darren Criss, The Assassination of Gianni Versace
Benedict Cumberbatch, Patrick Melrose
Jeff Daniels, The Looming Tower
John Legend, Jesus Christ Superstar; Live in Concert
Jesse Plemons, U.S.S. Callister: Black Mirror

We’re THRILLED that Jesse Plemons got a nod for that supremely creepy, but also somewhat hilarious performance. As much as we were impressed with Darren Criss and as much as we bitched about Patrick Melrose, we think Cumberbatch is probably a likely win.

The Men are Pretty and the Lady’s a Diva at “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” FYC Event | Tom + Lorenzo

Darren Criss

He’s been knocking it out of the park lately on the style and grooming fronts, which makes this look a slight step down, in our opinion. The suit is nice enough, but more than a little bland. And the head could use a trim all around. He looks like a cult leader.

Edgar Ramirez

Joel Edgerton couldn’t make this suit work either, but at least he was smart enough not to pair it with a DadSweater, Edgar. This is just bad all around. Except for everything north of the neck, that is. That part is just dreamy.

Judith Light

It’s no surprise that Miss Judith is the only one giving us something to look at. A consummate show-woman with an edge. There’s a New Romantic sort of rocker chick vibe that just looks amazing on her. We wish the blouse integrated with the look a little better, though.

Matt Bomer

If he didn’t have Matt Bomer’s face hanging off the front of his head, we’d have assumed some publicist accidentally got his picture taken on the red carpet.

Ricky Martin

The shoes bring a little bit of style to what is otherwise a dull and funereal look.

Gentlemen, you have let us down. Judith, you remain a goddess, dear. We’re bowing.

Oscars 2018: Suited Dandies at the Vanity Fair Party | Tom + Lorenzo

Darren Criss in Emporio Armani

Absolutely never looked this good before. He’s impeccable. More importantly, he’s notably stylish in a quietly attention-seeking way. He’s really turned heads with his Andrew Cunanan portrayal on The Assassination of Gianni Versace, making it a savvy move to show up at glitzy industry party looking more stylish than most of the other men.

Sorry to be so blunt in the headline, but once you scroll down, we feel you’ll support us on this one. Great-looking guy who should be able to look great in high fashion, but boy, is he sporting some weird outerwear this week.

What even IS that? It’s like five different jackets got tangled up in a transporter accident. Either he really loves this bizarre Frankenjacket or he has some sort of contractual obligation to wear it, because why would he take his suit jacket off to wear this ugly and unholy hybrid when he could snag a killer coat to throw over the whole thing?

Well, unfortunately, we may have an answer to that. His taste in coats is just as off as his taste in jackets.

Yeah, no. That’s just goofy. We don’t mind a man’s coat with some bold color-blocking, but that yellow is a tough color to work and the placement of it isn’t interesting or stylish, but distracting and distorting. It doesn’t help that the suit doesn’t fit all that great. And really, mister, did you absolutely need to sport a backpack on the way to a promotional event? It looks silly.
